!!!CALL TO ACTION!!!

Did you happen to read the article in Time Magazine about what our world might look like in 2050 if we don’t start making some big changes now? Well, it was very interesting and very depressing. Many of us will still be around in 28 years (hopefully). Here is a link to the article: https://time.com/5824295/climate-change-future-possibilities/ It is a scary article and I am not sure why people are not as worried as I am, especially our government officials. Greed still seems to rule these days. There will be no reason for money if we do not have an environment that is healthy, I am just saying… We really have to save this incredible planet! Everything will be affected; animals, plants, forests, oceans, deserts, grasslands, water supplies, food production and all will affect us humans. We are already seeing it play out.

I would like my daughters to be able to have families in a healthy environment. My oldest daughter already is not wanting to bring children into this world. It is hard to imagine what will happen to the next generations if the destruction of our planet continues. Many of those dystopian novels are not looking that far off. I am not sure what it is going to take but we really need to get it together! We have to do this now!

My thoughts are this, I am going to try all that I can to make a difference in my own little world. I am going to reduce waste in my home, no more plastics (not easy to do but will get easier and I am trying), buy power from sustainable sources, use non-toxic cleaners, plant trees, drive an electric car, reduce my water use, educate myself on the issues, write to my local and state politicians, volunteer, think about becoming a vegetarian, invest only in companies that are environmentally conscious, become a California Naturalist (I am really excited about this) and add to this list as I keep going. If we all make small changes it will make a difference. Pick up trash when you are walking on the beach or out hiking. Don’t use that plastic bag to hold your small purchase – just carry it. Use a reusable water bottle. Make small sustainable changes and soon you will be making a big difference. I know we can do this! I really would like to have grandkids and I want my daughters to be able to live and not be so anxious about the future of our planet. Have you heard of eco-anxiety? Not good… Old and young alike can make changes for the better and everyone makes a difference.

There are so many people doing amazing things for our planet and so many people that care. I do have hope so let’s start by taking small steps until we stop human caused global warming, polluting, loss of biodiversity, ocean acidification and forest destruction. All of theses things are interconnected as we are. We can do this!

I realize this is much easier for some people to make changes than others, so for those that can, do it. We all will benefit and so will the planet. It is the most important thing that you can do. If we do not have a healthy earth then there is nothing but death and chaos and I really don’t want that.

Airplane

Copper wire, wood base. I created this piece in late 2008. For this work, I aimed to convey both the industrial heaviness of an airplane, but also the cloudlike floating quality you feel when you’re in one.
